Kandy City Urban Form

This is the assignment done under the module SP 3602: Cities and urban Forms.

The following questions have been address in this report.

Section 01: Using a satellite (Google) image, study the pattern, in which the built and natural elements are interactively organized in your home town or any other urban area that is familiar to you.

1.1 Indicate the identifiable concentrations of the buildings within the town area.

1.2 Use different colours to indicate differences observable in densities of buildings, and the spread of natural features.

1.3 Extract only the main concentrations and main roads on to a tracing paper/image layer and compare that with the physical form models discussed in this semester.

1.4 What is the most appropriate general form model that could be used to explain the present and likely future order of developments of the urban area that you study?

Section 02 2.1. Explain positive and negative qualities that you have observed in the above-mentioned urban area.

2.2. According to your understanding, what are the qualities that have been directly resulted in from its form?

Section 03 Assess the level of performance of the said urban area using any of the criteria that you have learnt under this module in this semester, or any other suitable criteria. Your assessment shall be well supported with information and assumptions, if there are any, must be clearly stated, and the assessment process shall exhibit a reasonable understanding of the indicators.
